Debunking of myths about Mental Health
Today, October 10th is an important day for all of us as it's considered as World Mental Health Day. On this occasion, I would like to create awareness as a psychologist about some myths about mental health to reduce the stigma and stereotypes around us. Even in workplace, mental health and its issues are not considered as a problem at all and still expects the affected person to work without understanding and zero compassion but would it be same if one is affected by any physical illness? The answer is NO right.
- Deepika Padukone
People talk about physical fitness, but mental health is equally important. I see people suffering, and their families feel a sense of shame about it, which doesn't help. One needs support and understanding.
Many people around us might understand our emotional turmoil and extend their support but if people fail to understand others, one will not open up their problems to anyone and hence shuts their self that leads to more struggles and sufferings in silence. Let's create a fostering community and be empathetic to our friends, families and spouse by lending our emotional support and being a good listener and if needed seek professional help.
One's perspective about mental health is different from physical health but both are equal and importance should be given to both. And priority of taking care of ourselves in terms of not only physical health but mental health as well.
"SEEKING HELP IS NOT A SIGN OF WEAKNESS"

Myth 1: Mental health problems are rare.
Fact: Mental health issues are quite common. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 8 people globally live with a mental health disorder. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions are prevalent in many societies but often go unrecognized.
Fact: Mental illnesses are medical conditions, not a reflection of one’s character or strength. They can affect anyone, regardless of their background.
Myth 2: Mental illness is a sign of weakness.
Fact: Therapy can benefit anyone experiencing stress, emotional challenges, or wanting personal growth. You don't need to have a severe mental illness to seek help. Therapy can also help with life transitions, relationship issues, or self-improvement.
Myth 3: Therapy is only for people with serious mental health issues.
Myth 4: You can “snap out” of a mental illness.
Fact: Mental health conditions often require treatment, just like physical illnesses. They can't simply be willed away.
Myth 5: Children don't experience mental health issues.
Fact: Not only adults, Children and adolescents can also experience mental health problems. Conditions like anxiety, depression, and ADHD can manifest early in life. Early intervention is critical to prevent long-term consequences.
Myth 6: Medications are the only solution for mental health issues.
Fact: While medications can be effective for some, many people benefit from therapy, lifestyle changes, and support systems.
Fact: Most individuals with mental health issues are not violent. In fact, they are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. This myth is harmful and contributes to the stigma surrounding mental health.
Myth 7: People with mental health conditions are violent.
Fact: Open conversations about mental health can help reduce stigma, promote understanding, and encourage individuals to seek help.
Myth 8: Talking about mental health makes it worse.
Fact: Mental health issues can arise from a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors, not personal failures.
Myth 9: Mental health problems are caused by personal failure.
Fact: Many people recover from mental health conditions or learn to manage them effectively. Recovery is a journey and can vary for each individual.
Myth 10: Once you have a mental health condition, you’ll have it forever.
Fact: Many people think mental health illness is an option or choice and think they will not get affected by it. Mental health issues affects everyone regardless of age, culture or professions. Mental health is not a choice and taking care of it is mandatory.
Myth 11: Mental health is not a choice.
Fact: Self-care is essential for maintaining mental health. Taking time to rest, engage in hobbies, or practice mindfulness can help reduce stress and improve emotional well-being, making it a key component of mental health management.
Myth 12 : Self-care is selfish or indulgent.
Myth 13 : Therapy is only for people who can't manage their problems.
Fact: Therapy is a tool for everyone. It helps people understand and cope with their emotions, manage stress, and build resilience. Many people use therapy to learn skills for improving their mental health and quality of life, even if they aren’t in crisis.
Fact: Recovery is possible with the right treatment and support. Many people with mental health conditions lead fulfilling lives through therapy, medication, self-care, and community support. Recovery is not always linear, but improvement is achievable.
Myth 14: You can’t recover from mental illness.
Myth 15 : People with mental health disorders can’t hold down jobs.
Fact: Many individuals with mental health conditions are successful in their careers. With appropriate treatment and accommodations, they can function effectively in the workplace and lead productive lives.
Myth 16 : Mental health issues are all in your head.
Understanding the truth behind these myths can help foster a more supportive and informed community. Encouraging open dialogue and education about mental health can contribute significantly to reducing stigma and promoting well-being.
Fact: Mental health disorders often have physical manifestations, like changes in brain chemistry and function. Just like any other medical condition, mental illnesses affect both the mind and the body.

YOU! Stop there! Is your cat getting enough water?
Cats can be extremely finicky (as everyone who has one around knows) and it's so important to make sure they get enough water. Cats were essentially desert/survival animals before they decided to just vibe in our homes, so they can be prone to not drinking much just overall, but they still need to!
I've spent a lot of time with trial and error- and here's some things I wanted to share about making sure they drink enough, to have healthy kidneys, bladders, and overall all their organ functions!
TRY:
-Testing lots of materials for their drinking bowls! My cats aren't fans of classics like; Stainless Steel, Ceramic, or Plastic, and won't drink out of them. What worked for me, is a transparent glass cookware pan! I have to use a heavy, clear glass device, or my cats will throw the bowl in REJECTION. Try out different things!
-MOVE THE BOWL ACROSS THE HOME. Cats do NOT like their water beside their food- At least any cat I've had! Move it somewhere water runs anyway, and they know about it, such as the bathroom! They are happy to see me use running water every morning from the bathroom where it's always running, and they don't like it beside their food.
-Don't rely on fads. Running water fountains noise making have just scared my cats off- and they don't enjoy them. Your cat may love them, but make sure to evaluate if you ever actually see your cats drinking from things like this. (also they scare me as fire starters!)
-Try letting your cat drink from other places to see where he likes it best. Water somehow tastes different from different faucets, see which one they like the best!
-Try gravy/wet soft foods. My cats love gravy the MOST, and it's essentially their treat each night (Because casual treats and catnip make them aggressive yikes) but I appreciate it, because of its water content! I know they're still getting another liquid in their diet.
Keeping your cat, and yourself hydrated, is SO important! Please make sure they're drinking, give them fresh water daily and all that they desire. Likewise: Make sure your cat isn't incessantly chugging water non-stop, because that could sign a different underlying issue! Take care of your pets 💕
(If your dog has trouble drinking water idk any tips my dog is a water chugging machine. I had to get her a like Hamster Bottle type of water bottle bc she throws bowls everywhere if that helps LOL)
#try things! consult the internet too bc im sure there's plenty more resources#cats#cat#animals#pets#pet care#dogs#pet health#cat health#cat help#feel free to add on

Listen, if you work in the US please just listen for a second.
I think it goes without saying the job market is in utter shambles. If you're working or job hunting please please please take some time to familiarize yourself with the workers rights laws in your state. We will never make headway in advancing our rights if we don't understand and advocate for the ones we have.
there are a lot of things to watch out for, but this is one many people don't seem to know about. I definitely didn't until uh. recently. (I'm not an expert, and this is not professional legal advice, I'm just sharing my experience within my own state and situation. Check your state's Department of Labor website for resources/info)
Please be aware that some jobs may try to hire you as an independent contractor. If you aren't seeking contracted work, this is a RED FLAG.
In very basic terms, and employee is your typical job. You get a W-2 at tax season, and taxes are taken out of your paycheck automatically. Your boss sets your schedule and duties, and provides the training and tools to do your job. You have no ownership of the business, and they set the rules.
If you are an independent contractor, you are essentially a business owner. You can be hired to provide a service, which is done on YOUR terms. You provide your own equipment, hire your own team, prepare your own taxes (probably a 1099), and the person paying you can't train you or tell you how to do your job.
If those criteria are not being met, but you've been hired as a contractor instead of an employee, you may have been illegally misclassified.
Why do employers do this? Basically, employees are promised certain legal rights and protections, which do not necessarily apply to independent contractors. So sometimes businesses will try to (illegally) get the best of both worlds by hiring you under their terms (setting your schedule, duties, etc) without the liability, expenses, or insurance and tax burdens of hiring an employee. Then at tax season, YOU owe the IRS a shit ton of money, and you have no writeoffs because of course you don't. you don't have business expenses for someone else's business
if you think you've been misclassified, or have experienced ANY mistreatment at work, please speak with a professional.
Talking to a lawyer may seem intimidating and expensive. But many employment lawyers offer free consults. They will hear you out for free, and tell you if you have a case.
In my personal experience, my lawyer met with me and reviewed all the evidence and info I had. They contacted my previous "employer" and their legal counsel on my behalf for free. They negotiated a settlement for me, and all I owed them was a percentage of that settlement. If they couldn't get me anything, I wouldn't have owed them anything.
These are just things I wish I had known earlier, so I'm sharing in case it can help even one person not get fucked over. Advocate for yourself. Unionize your workplace. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.
#this was honestly such an ordeal and really affected my mental health and ability to get another job#workers rights#us law#unionize#advocacy#labor law#legal rights#jobsearch#SORRY i know this is long but knowing any of this would genuinely have altered the course of my life lmaooo#also i think people assume lawyers are always expensive or trying to fuck you over#a free consult doesn’t hurt. even if they can't help they may have other resources#some will even consult over the phone

Just watched the fnaf movie (no spoilers!!)
I can say that on a technical level I can understand some of the critique, however coming from the perspective of a fan of the franchise since fnaf 1 I really honestly loved the direction they took witb it- I think it was a very good film, although I think I would rather engage with the fandom than watch it again (mostly just cuz Im not a huge horror/thriller film person, i prefer written horror/thriller) All in all, Id say a solid 7-8/10!! I was not disappointed :)) /gen, pos
#fnaf movie#spoiler free#i will say#if you are someone who is nervous about visual gore/jumpscares/etc#PLEASE consult the doesthedogdie.com article before viewing#i think a few very minor spoilers are more than worth it for the sake of your mental health and wellbeing#Theres no shame in it!! I consulted it beforehand and I think it made my viewing experience a lot better personally

Understanding Emotions
Dive into the fascinating world of color psychology. Learn how color choices can reveal underlying feelings and discover techniques to use color for emotional well-being.
Job Consulting And Recruiting
In the realm of job consultancy, understanding the psychological and emotional makeup of candidates is crucial for aligning them with roles that not only match their skills but also their personality traits and emotional responses. This is where the InnerColors Test (based on Lüscher Color Test) plays a pivotal role, offering deep insights into the candidates' subconscious preferences through their choice of colors.
Significance of the Lüscher Test in Job Consultancy And Recruiting
The InnerColors Test is not just another psychometric tool; it is a substantial method that reveals the often-hidden aspects of personality. Developed by Max Lüscher, the test is grounded in the belief that color preferences are indicative of psychological functioning, providing a mirror to one's subjective emotional state(Stompór-Świderska, n.d.).
In job consultancy, the application of the LCT (Luscher Color Test) can be particularly transformative. It assists consultants in understanding the intrinsic qualities and potential stressors for candidates. For instance, a preference for blue might indicate a person's need for calm and stability, whereas a preference for red could suggest a drive for action and excitement(Stompór-Świderska, n.d.). This knowledge allows consultants to recommend career paths that not only suit the candidates' skills but also cater to their psychological comfort zones, potentially leading to higher job satisfaction and productivity.
This test is particularly useful in personnel recruiting, where understanding the deeper layers of a candidate's personality can be crucial in determining their suitability for a role. The test can be used to enhance the understanding of a candidate's personality traits, stress triggers, and overall emotional health.
Moreover, the LCT is advantageous because it is non-invasive and quick, requiring no prior preparation from the subjects. It transcends language and cultural barriers, making it universally applicable, which is particularly beneficial in today's globalized job market(Stompór-Świderska, n.d.). The test's design also minimizes the chances of manipulated responses, thus providing more genuine results than some other personality assessments(Stompór-Świderska, n.d.).

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.
[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.
#transgender#trans history#transsexual#transphobia#Magnus Hirschfeld#holocaust#holocaust denial#book burning#j.k. rowling#jk rowling#just in case you missed what i mean by all this: go fuck yourself anon :)#trans people have always existed#and we will always exist#if you really wanna pick a fight with me over well-documented history then you better bring in some sources to back your shit#queer history#queer#lgbt+#lgbta+#lgbt#lgbt history#edit: i finally got around to those damn image IDs. i am so very sorry for totally forgetting that's my bimbo moment of the month#also real quick i thought about adding an image of the actual building but the only one i can find has a Nazi parade in front of it#it was taken the day of the book burning raid and honestly if i were to include it then i'd add it to the first few paragraphs#and i think the story's better told when you uphold the hope Magnus Hirschfeld and all the researchers he worked with had#also keeps being brought up: yes Hirschfeld was a eugenicist. it was a popular belief set that was only discredited after WW2#Hirschfeld died in 1935. he literally didn't live long enough to see science turn against those beliefs and practices#considering how he changed his mind on transitions i like to think he would've changed his mind on eugenics too if he'd lived
